The DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. is proud to be able to offer a comprehensive range of vaccinations manufactured by renowned European companies to address the need for regular vaccinations in country and enable those wishing to travel abroad to meet special vaccination requirements, too. We import our vaccinations via reliable, unbroken cool-chain providers to ensure that they reach us in perfect condition for storage in our dedicated facilities in vibration-free refrigerators coupled to uninterruptible power supplies with generously proportioned backup batteries.
We keep a regular stock of vaccinations recommended to all, above the age of two years, living or working in Afghanistan to obtain protection against debilitating viral and bacterial diseases which, in the unfortunate event that someone should contract them, may otherwise necessitate emergency treatment abroad. Vaccination against these diseases affords, in most cases, protection that lasts upwards of five to ten years. We also keep a semi-regular stock of other vaccinations that may be required for individuals in special employment relationships that put them at particular risk of contraction or those who require them as part of fulfilling the requirements of immigration to another country or for scholarships abroad. Whilst we aim to always have a basic level of stock, these vaccines may run temporarily out of stock. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We strive to be able to provide our valued clients with access to seasonal influenza vaccines every year as these become available on the European market. As such, we are usually in a position to obtain upwards of one thousand influenza shots each year. The DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. will only administer these vaccines during the medically indicated period and will never inoculate a patient with a contraindicated influenza vaccine. Please note that stocks are limited and dispensed strictly on a first-come first-serve basis. Reservations for seasonal influenza vaccines must be made well in advance.
We provide our valued clients with either a paid-for, internationally accepted "yellow book" in which their history of vaccinations is recorded or a free, equally acceptable "yellow card" for the same purpose. Those wishing to pursue official accreditations that require a vaccination record are encouraged to obtain the "yellow book".
Please note that we provide our valued patients with information about the vaccinations they wish to or are required to receive and our professional staff are available for any questions that may remain unanswered by the information leaflets available in our facility or on this website. Before inoculation, we require each patient to answer a set of medically relevant questions and confirm their consent to receive the vaccination through signature of a consent form which is made available here in English and Dari. This and other documents, such as the vaccination information leaflets on this page, may also be obtained from our downloads section or below on this page.
Diphtheria & Tetanus:
Diphtheria is a very serious and highly contagious bacterial infection of the upper respiratory tract. It can have debilitating consequences in those affected such as paralysis, heart failure and death.

Tetanus is a medical complication arising from the contamination of wounds by materials that may harbour the bacterial agent of this disease. It results in uncontrollable contraction of skeletal muscle fibers and can have very serious consequences such as nerve damage and death.
We regret that we are unable to offer Tetanus immunoglobulin which is usually given when someone who has not been vaccinated against Tetanus sustains a wound susceptible to contamination. The combined Diphtheria & Tetanus vaccination protects reliably against these two debilitating diseases but only if administered at least two weeks before exposure to the pathogens.

Hepatitis A:
Hepatitis A is a serious viral disease affecting the liver that is easily contracted and passed on to others. It causes jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes, severe stomach pains and diarrhea requiring hospitalization in twenty percent of cases and can, in very serious cases, lead to death.

Hepatitis B:
Hepatitis B is a very serious, contagious viral disease affecting the liver that can present in short-term and long-term forms. In the short-term persons suffering from Hepatitis B will experience loss of appetite, tiredness, diarrhea, vomiting, jaundice, muscle and stomach pains. If the disease enters a chronic stage, liver damage usually follows with the possibility of liver cancer and, eventually, death.

Inactivated Polio Vaccine:
Poliomyelitis is a viral disease contracted through consumption of contaminated food or drink or through the bodily fluids of someone who has either been in contact with the virus or is suffering from the disease. It very seriously affects the nervous system of infected individuals and can lead to permanent, irreversible paralysis.

Influenza (seasonal):
Influenza is an acute viral infection that can spread easily between persons. It can cause severe illness and even death in those particularly at risk, the very young, the elderly and those of fragile health.
Please note that this is a seasonally available vaccine and that a new vaccine is released by manufacturers each year depending on the viral strain most likely to predominate that coming influenza period.
The DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. is able to offer the trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine (2019/20) which protects against three viral strains that cause influenza.
Recommended:

one shot for those individuals above eight years of age, usually at the beginning of autumn.

two shots for those individuals under eight years of age at 0 and 28 days, usually at the beginning of autumn.

Measles, Mumps & Rubella:
Measles are a viral disease that can cause mild symptoms like cough, runny nose, eye irritation and fever but can progress to cause serious ear infections, pneumonia, seizures, brain damage and even death.
Mumps is also a viral disease that causes fever, headaches and swollen glands but can progress into a complicated disease that leads to deafness, Meningitis, infertility and death.
Rubella is also caused by a virus and can cause mild symptoms such as rashes and fever but also more serious symptoms such as arthritis. More importantly, in pregnant women it can cause miscarriages and very serious birth defects if the child comes to term.
All three diseases are contracted easily and spread quickly between those infected and other persons. The Measles, Mumps & Rubella vaccine can provide lifetime protection against these diseases.
Depending on stock availability, you may find that we occasionally offer MMR-V vaccinations instead of MMR vaccinations. These MMR-V vaccinations protect against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and in addition Varicella.

Meningococcal quadrivalent:
Meningitis, or meningococcal disease, is a very serious bacterial infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It can be treated but in most cases, survival comes at a high price. The disease can become so rampant that amputation of limbs may be required, permanent deafness occurs or damage to the nervous system resulting in mental retardation, seizures and strokes. In ten to fifteen per cent of cases the disease leads to death. It is particularly prevalent in environments where great numbers of people come together such as schools and universities.
The DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. is proud to be able to offer the quadrivalent Meningitis A/C/W/Y vaccine that protects against the majority of bacterial strains that cause meningitis.

Pneumococcal:
Pneumococcal disease is caused by certain bacteria and results, especially in the very young and very old, in infections of the lungs, the blood and the brain lining. In many cases this can lead to death.
The DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. is proud to be able to offer the Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine PPV-23 which protects against the twenty-three most dangerous strains of pneumococcal bacteria likely to cause serious disease.

Rabies:
Rabies is a viral disease conferred unto humans through the bites of infected animals. It may not become apparent for a long period of time but suddenly break out presenting symptoms of pain, fatigue, headaches, fever and irritability. It quickly progresses to seizures, hallucinations and, in the vast majority of cases, leads to death.
We regret to inform our valued clients that the DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. does not stock Rabies immunoglobulin which is required when someone who has not received a prophylactic rabies vaccination series is bitten by a rabid animal. Those who have had no prophylactic rabies vaccination series and who are bitten by an animal that is suspected of being rabid are strongly advised to seek medical attention outside of Afghanistan as a matter of absolute urgency.
Receiving a full prophylactic rabies vaccination series removes the need for the extremely expensive and elusive Rabies immunoglobulin injections in the event of a bite and reduces the number of post-exposure vaccinations required from five to two.

Typhoid:
Typhoid fever is a serious bacterial infection that can be contracted through the consumption of contaminated food or drink. It causes high fever, weakness, stomach pain, headaches and in some cases rashes. If untreated it causes death in up to thirty percent of cases. In other cases, people who have suffered from the illness may become carriers and continuously infect others.
The Typhoid vaccine offered by the DK - German Medical Diagnostic Center Ltd. protects against the worst strain of abdominal typhoid, most likely to cause serious illness and even death in those who contract it.

Varicella:
Varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, is usually a mild, if uncomfortable but highly contagious disease. In adults, however, and very young children who have not had the disease, it can become very severe and lead to serious skin infections, scarring, pneumonia, brain damage and even death.

Yellow Fever:
Yellow fever is a serious viral disease contracted from mosquitoes carrying the virus. It is most prevalent in certain parts of Africa and South America. The disease begins with fever and jaundice but can quickly progress to liver, kidney or respiratory system failure and death. The vast majority of Yellow Fever cases require hospitalization.
Please note that in order to avail yourself of a Yellow Fever vaccination, you must obtain a "yellow book" in which a special section is allocated to the Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. The validity of the Yellow Fever vaccination only begins ten days after injection and this is often a cause of frustration for those needing to travel to a Yellow Fever area on short notice.
